Adventures in Baking

I'm throwing a very casual fun baby shower for my friend Libertie on Saturday and decided to test out the cupake recipe in the Feb Martha Stewart Living magazine. I didn't have powdered sugar or corn syrup to try the frosting recipes but I had whipping cream and some old coconut pecan frosting (I later noticed the date on the back said it was best by 2004 so I had to toss it) but this is what I came up with. My mother in law will be here to help this weekend as they are coming back with the camper so I'll take more pictures to post of the actual little ones that turn out. They're supposed to be baby hedgehogs. :)

Here's the two cupcakes I tried with the picture in the magazine above.
I also need to pick up some chocolate chips for eyes. These didn't do so well.

I don't have pastry bags or tips so I used the Jen version, a plastic sandwhich bag with the tip bitten off because my kitchen shears were stolen and put in S's tool box. (Good excuse to buy a decent pair other than the ones I bought from the dollar store that were rusting anyways)

I resisted the urge to take a picture of me taking a bite. It was yummy!
